Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple is located in Shanghai Anyuan Road. It is not only the well-known temple in Shanghai, but also the Buddhist monastery all over the world. It is founded in 1882. As Shanghai's top ten tourist attractions, even though it is located in the bustling city, but quiet, has been hailed as downtown in a pure land. The history of it has been 120 years of history, before and after there are eleven abbots. This Temple built in the Qing dynasty eighth years (AD 1882), the original area is 11.6 acres, having a construction area of 8,856 square meters, is basically based on the symmetrical axis italics palace-style buildings.

It was named to worship the Buddha. Emerald Buddha statue showing in the temple is the famous treasure inside the Temple. Here lies permitted enshrine one large and one small two reclining Buddhas. The small one is brought by Huigen Master from Burma; the larger one was brought by Zen Master in 1990 from Singapore. Since then, the two Buddha are show in this temple for visitors to worship.

Now it is divided into two parts, the front yard and backyard. Front yard that the original site of the temple. Axis were divided into large Screen Wall, King Hall, Main Hall, Wisdom Husband Room (upstairs floor are the Emerald Buddha and Tibetan Books)

The Backyard, which was purchased from ABBA hospital site in 2000, is a versatile sleep group building, with multi-function auditorium, room, office area, teaching area, living quarters and other components.

The temple is one of the Shanghai must-see attractions, and till now, it still be an active one that with 70 resident monks at last count. In order to make it convenient for the adherents to visit, it was bodily moved to Shanghai City at the present sire in 1918.

Eating around the Jade Buddha Temple
The public restaurant is located on level two at the eastern edge of the temple and equipped with its own street entrance. Open daily, it serves a range of noodle dishes for five yuan per bowl, the most popular of which is 'double mushroom noodles'. Other dishes are served at moderate prices. Tickets are sold by color and this ticket is turned in inside the main eating room and your soup is then delivered to your table which you might share with others. Upstairs is a much more upscale restaurant at much higher prices.
