Hair loss in women can be temporary or permanent in nature.
An untreated disease, chemotherapy, pregnancy, and surgery are usually the reasons behind a temporary problem in women.
On the other hand, malnutrition, stress, pollution, hormonal fluctuations and female pattern baldness can lead to permanent problem.
Hormonal fluctuations are a chief contributing factor towards thinning of hair and loss the hair in women.
Even though most women only produce very low levels of testosterone or the male sex hormone, there are certain times when the female body produce greater amount of testosterone.
These include child birth, pregnancy, post menopause and even an abortion or a miscarriage.
Stress is also another significant factor in losing hair prematurely.
To deal with a stressful situation, the body produces an increased amount of adrenaline.
This gets into our blood stream and has a bad effect on the hair follicles, making them brittle, cause split ends and even lose their tensile strength.
Usually this kind of hair loss in women is temporary in nature and the hair regenerates once the reason behind the stress is removed.
An untreated disease or a major surgery can also induce hair loss.
As these can have an adverse effect on the hair follicles too.
During an illness the human body stops expending energy on things that are not extremely important in order to be able to devote more time and energy towards fighting the illness.
Hair and nails are considered non essentials and do not form part of the essential function of the body.
Thus during illness it is not uncommon to start losing hair.
Apart from that the medications used to treat diseases such as arthritis, depression and blood pressure, birth control pills and chemotherapy have side effect that causes women's hair loss.
Women also experience pattern baldness that is an inherited problem.
But unlike men the pattern baldness does not result in spot baldness.
