Indian Wedding Card Ideas

    • In India, wedding celebrations can last for several days. Sending wedding invitations far in advance is important so guests can hold the date. A bride and groom can choose an elegant wedding invitation with an Indian motif for a design that stays true to their culture. Couples can choose from different designs and colors to find wedding card ideas that will complement their wedding theme.

    Embroidered Design

    • Use a traditional Indian wedding dress or sari with intricate embroidery as inspiration for your invitations. Choose a wedding invitation with images that mimic the embroidery. Add such embellishments as colorful rhinestones and beads to make the invitation more appealing. To complement the wedding theme, use tulle in the same color as the wedding dress.

    Religious Icons

    • India is home to such religions as Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity. Indian couples may choose an image of their religion's deity when designing their wedding invitations. A hand-painted drawing of such Hindu deities as Shiva and Parvati dancing together and donned in colorful outfits, or a painting of a Buddha can grace the cover of a Buddhist couple's invitation.

    Wedding Scroll

    • Instead of the common card-style invitation, use wedding scrolls for an Indian wedding. Use expensive paper and emboss the paper scroll with metallic designs. Use bronze-, silver- or gold-plated cases embellished with rhinestones to hold your scroll invitations. These regal invitations make treasured keepsakes.

    Boxed Invitation

    • For a more interesting wedding card, use embossed card material. Choose padded boxes made of wood and covered in such luxurious fabrics as silk, organza or taffeta to hold the cards. Customize the boxes--embellish them with ribbons and beads shaped into the couple's initials.

    Mehndi Designs

    • For a simple Indian wedding invitation, use a white card folded like an envelope with a die-cut design on the flap. Choose a design that mimics mehndi, or henna tattoos, which traditional Indian brides use to decorate their bodies on their wedding day. The couple also may choose to have an artist hand-paint the design on the cards for a more customized look. Add a card insert made of tissue paper and inscribed with an Indian wedding poem.
