    • 1). Disconnect your motor from its power source, either batteries or AC power. If the motor is hardwired into a continuous power source, shut the power off at the circuit breaker.

    • 2). Cut the postitive (+) and negative (-) wires with wire cutters at the position where you'll be placing the switch.

    • 3). Strip about 3/8 to 1/2 inch of insulation from both ends of each of the cut wires.

    • 4). Attach the positive wire ends to the positive terminals of the toggle switch. The method of attachment depends upon the brand of switch. Some will have set screw attachments, whereas others may require you to solder the bare wire ends to the switch's terminals. Consult the manual for the switch if you're uncertain.

    • 5). Attach the negative wire ends to the negative terminals of the toggle switch. Note the caveat in Step 4.

    • 6). Mount your switch in the desired location. Some toggle switches are inline (on the cord) while others are built to be mounted to a surface. Use the appropriate method for your particular switch.

    • 7). Turn the power back on, or reconnect the batteries for the motor.
