Whilst many of us at some point in our life suffer from acne the few lucky ones enjoy blemish free skin for life.
This begs the question as to whether acne prone skin really exists? Part of the answer is based on the knowledge that acne is caused by hormone behaviour that triggers glands that are located just below the skin.
When particular hormones are triggered they can stimulate these sebaceous glands causing them to produce more oil.
It is the over production of this oil that is thought to be the cause of acne because it leads to clogging of the pores, which can become infected by bacteria.
This is why during particular stages in life acne can be more prevalent, such as during teenage years and the menopause for women.
At this stage hormonal levels tend to be all over the place, meaning that the sebaceous glands are more likely to over produce oil.
So why do you suffer from acne as an adult? You would expect acne to diminish after puberty, but many of us suffer from acne as an adult.
It is thought that you may be more prone to acne if you lifestyle causes hormonal changes.
Diet, stress, sleeplessness and an inability to relax all affect on our hormonal levels and can take their toll on the skin if not taken care.
It is these lifestyle factors that are considered to be one of the main reasons we as adults suffer from acne.
If you find that you have oily skin you may be tempted to find treatments that work to dry your skin out.
Please stop now, drying out your skin is not the solution to treating your acne.
In fact, using remedies or products that dry your skin will probably make the problem even worse.
The glands tend to fight the dry skin by working overtime to produce even more oil! One such popular ingredient for the treatment of acne is Benzoyl peroxide.
This has been proved to be effective but changes your skin ph and can led to drying of the skin.
In fact Benzoyl peroxide can prove to be too strong and you will be unable to use it daily.
A better alternative would be a tea tree oil based product.
This helps to clear infection whilst maintaining a normal skin ph, even better you can use it daily without any problems.
If you tend to suffer from acne prone skin you may like to consider an acne treatment remedy or over the counter product so you can improve and even cure your acne for good.
