The Dream Winter Break - Sun or Snow?
However, holidaymakers seem divided as to what the best getaway really is. A recent poll carried out by HolidayExtras.com revealed that the majority (56%) of Britons feel their ultimate winter holiday would be a break with sunshine and a beach; the safe choice of warm weather and time for relaxation and a good book.
At the opposite end of the weather spectrum, 10% of those polled would prefer to travel to cooler climates and enjoy some winter sports and snow in the mountains - men in particular were keen on this option, with 12% in agreement. However on the whole, skiing and snowboarding was shown to be less popular with Brits than a spa break, which 15% of people would choose.
Winter sports expert Antonia Lee-Bapty from the Holiday Extras Expert Panel believes holidaymakers are missing out: "What could be better than relaxing with a vin chaud after a hard day's skiing? This season is shaping up to be a great one with fantastic snow falls across both Europe & North America already".
Of course, not everybody's idea of fun and relaxation involves going away, there are plenty who resist the draw of the sun or snow - almost a quarter of men in the UK would opt for staying at home compared to just one in ten women.
However, if you are tempted to head abroad for a winter break, whether hot or cold, start daydreaming about your destination early - there are nearly always savings to be made by booking well in advance.
