    Taxonomy

    • The black Pakistan cobra has the scientific name of Naja naja; it is also commonly referred to as the Indian speckled cobra and the Sri Lankan cobra, due to populations that spread throughout these countries.

    Size

    • The black Pakistan cobra is usually between 100 and 150 cm long, but may grow to over 200 cm in length.

    Diet

    • Small birds, reptiles and mammals compose the diet of this cobra. The black Pakistan cobra is both a carnivore and a scavenger, hunting live animals and scavenging for dead meat.

    Habitat

    • This snake inhabits grasslands and lightly forested areas. Due to the increased presence of rodents that is correlated with food storage and refuse, large numbers of black Pakistan cobras have been drawn to nearby human habitation zones as well.

    Fun Fact

    • While it does bite, the black Pakistan cobra also has a peculiar tendency to strike with its mouth closed.
