Scholarships for Forensic Science Minors

    AFTE Scholarship Program

    • The Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners (AFTE) awards multiple annual scholarships to students seeking a career in forensic science. Students are not required to major in forensic science. Therefore, a student with a major in another field and a minor in forensic science qualifies for the scholarship. The scholarships are awarded by the AFTE Scholarship Committee, which selects scholarship winners from all applicants. Scholarship recipients are announced at the annual AFTE Conference, and a photograph and short biography of the scholarship recipient is posted on the AFTE's website.

    American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD)

    • The ASCLD awards a one-time scholarships each year to junior or senior students enrolled in a bachelor's or graduate program. The students must be seeking a degree in forensic science, forensic chemistry or a physical or natural science. A physical science major with a minor in forensic science is a strong candidate for this scholarship. Scholarship applicants must provide a scholastic transcript with a record of forensic science coursework and must express a commitment to a career in forensic science. Applicants also should include a personal statement and a recommendation letter from a faculty member or adviser.

    Northeastern Association of Forensic Scientists (NAFS)

    • The NAFS awards the George W. Neighbor Jr. Memorial Scholarship to a student enrolled in a college forensic science or related science program. Only full-time undergraduate students in their junior or senior year qualify for the scholarship. Applicants must supply two letters of recommendation from professors involved in the college or university forensic science curriculum. Students also must include a statement letter describing achievements and personal goals and a college transcript. Only students who are attending a college in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania can receive the scholarship.

    George H. Robinson Memorial Scholarship

    • The George H. Robinson Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to four students during the fall educational conferences of the Chesapeake Bay Division of the International Association of Identification (IAI). The program is for students enrolled in forensic science and criminal justice programs. The scholarship is named after the former head of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. Robinson also was the first president of the IAI.

    Floyd McDonald Scholarship Program

    • The Southwestern Association of Forensic Scientists administers the Floyd E. McDonald Scholarship program. The scholarship is designed to encourage students to pursue studies for a career in forensic science. The annual scholarship is available to a student attending any college or university in the United States and is a junior or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or natural science. The student also must be pursuing a career in the forensic sciences. A 3.0 grade point average is also a requirement.
