How to Compile Wedding Invitations

    • 1). Lay the invitation face up if it's a flat invitation. Lay a card invitation face up and open to the inside with the text.

    • 2). Cover the text of the invitation with a tissue. Originally, printers included the tissue to keep the ink from smudging. Now, tissue is generally not necessary, but it adds a traditional touch.

    • 3). Tuck the response card face up inside its envelope so the flap of the envelope covers the text of the response card. Set aside.

    • 4). Pile the invitation pieces face up on top of the invitation by size, beginning with the largest item, whether that's your map card, response card or other piece of information.

    • 5). Close a folded card-style invitation once you've placed all the pieces in it by size order.

    • 6). Insert the invitation and accompanying pieces into your inner envelope so the text of your invitation faces the back of the envelope with the flap. The inner envelope is the one without a seal on the back flap.

    • 7). Place the inner envelope inside the addressed envelope so the names written on the outside of the inner envelope show when your guests open the flap of the outer envelope.
