Treatments For ADHD In Children - Getting The Balance Right And Thinking Outside The Box

Have you ever wondered why the standard pharmaceutical treatments for ADHD in children are not working as well as they should? One of the alarming facts is that according to the CDC, there is now a 5% increase in the number of children being treated for this mental disorder every year.
Another alarming fact is that the pharmaceutical treatment is fraught with difficulties, side effects, health risks and a whole range of question marks which has sent parents scurrying to find safer and even more effective alternative treatments for ADHD in children.
Instead of worrying about the effects of being labelled as a poster girl for ADHD, Molly Zametkin took an original approach.
She decided that instead of paying $3,000 to have negative instances associated with ADHD and her name removed from the Internet, she would take a much more positive approach.
Reading her story in The Washington Post is inspiring because it shows that many people with ADHD are able to cope successfully with the disorder and grow up to be well balanced adults and cope with managing their condition with panache as Molly has done.
Much too often, there has been far too much emphasis on the fact that ADHD children may grow up with multiple problems and are liable to be a drain on society and indeed the economy.
The CDC estimates that the cost of ADHD to the nation is massive.
This figure is something like $32 to $50 billion every year.
This is in terms of lost working hours, absence due to illness, car accidents and becoming addicted to drugs.
Many of these drugs are the amphetamines themselves which are also prescribed for very young children.
But treatments for ADHD in children which are not just medication are now gaining much more support because parents and teachers realize that there is much more to ADHD than merely fixing it with a few pills.
That is the reason why we need to think outside the box.
One of the greatest authorities on ADHD, Dr.
William Pelham studied over 100 research papers.
He realized that after three years, many of the medications were losing their effect and the results were not at all what they were supposed to be.
In other words, there were no tangible results in helping a child to come to terms width being hyperactive, restless and suffering from poor concentration.
That is the mason reason why treatments for ADHD in children are now focusing on alternative medicine, the main one being homeopathy.
There are no worries about side effects at all and there are no health risks such as cardiac events, poor appetite or very bad quality of sleep.
