How to Visit Door County, Wisconsin
- 1). Pick a region/village to stay in. While it is easy to visit each area during your stay in Door County, picking where to stay can be more difficult. Door County has 11 regions/villages from the northernmost Washington Island to the Southern Door. All areas offer something unique to visitors. Accommodations range from bed and breakfast establishments to resorts or even campgrounds.
- 2). Tour and sample wine at one of the five Door County wineries. From Sturgeon Bay to Fish Creek, the wineries are hard to miss. While the adults sample some of the locally produced wine, some of the wineries also have orchards where the children (or adults) can pick fruit.
- 3). Take in a movie the old fashioned way. The Skyway Drive-In Theatre between Ephraim and Fish Creek offers a good, old- fashioned evening of fun with movies airing nightly.
- 4). Ride a bike. Door County has both on and off road tours. The area has plenty of bike rental shops to choose from, which have bike trailers, children's bikes, tandems, helmets and more.
- 5). Go boating. Bring your boat or rent one from one of the boat rental companies. Or, if you'd prefer to sit back and let someone else do the sailing. Sign up for a boat tour from one of the many charters available.
- 6). Visit a state park. Door County has more state parks than any other county in the country. Peninsula State Park, Potawatomi State Park, Newport State Park, Whitefish Dunes and Rock Island all have public beaches. Each offers something unique to visitors. Whitefish Dunes has the highest dunes in Wisconsin. Some of the parks allow overnight camping. Also try swimming, hiking, biking or skiing within one of the parks.
