How to Build a Model Pueblo
- 1). Cut 36 squares of cardboard 5 inches on a side.
- 2). Lay one square flat on the table. Cut a 1-inch tall, 1/2-inch wide rectangle out of the center of the square to form a window.
- 3). Apply hot glue to one edge of the square. Glue a second square to the first so that the edges form a 90-degree angle. Repeat for all four sides.
- 4). Glue the edges of the upright squares to one another.
- 5). Place glue along the upper edge of all four squares and top the figure with a sixth square, forming a cube.
- 6). Repeat to form five more cubes.
- 7). Stack the cubes to form the pueblo structure; cubes can be stacked one high, two high or three high. Vary the height of the pueblo house to mimic the varied building heights common in this style of architecture. Make sure that precut windows are visible.
- 8). Glue the cubes in place.
- 9). Cut out at least one door; additional windows can also be cut at this time.
- 10
Cut 10 lengths of dowel each 1/4- to 1/2-inch long for every second and third story of your pueblo. For example a pueblo with two two-story buildings needs 20 dowel pieces. - 11
Place five evenly-spaced drops of glue on the joint where the first story meet the second. Press the cut end of the dowel into the glue. Repeat on the opposing side of the cube; these dowels represent support beams. Beams can also be placed in the roofs of single-story buildings as desired. - 12
Mix plaster of Paris according to package directions. - 13
Pour plaster over the top of the pueblo coating all of the walls. Smooth around window openings and dowels with a knife or brush. Remove plaster from the dowels. Dry overnight. - 14
Paint the house white, red or brown.
