Taking a Bite Out of Dog Owner Negligence

Beware of Dog.
It's a sign that we have all seen at some time or another.
When we see it posted, we know to be wary of the canine that resides wherever the sign is.
Our common sense tells us to avoid the animal to prevent being bitten.
Responsible dog owners know to post this warning if there is a chance that their dog may be aggressive and attack someone.
Unfortunately, there are a large number of dog owners who are not so responsible.
Those dogs do wind up biting people and can cause substantial injury to their victims.
If you have ever been the victim of a dog bite injury, you know that it is more than just a scratch.
It is estimated that more than 4 million people in the United States are bitten by a dog every year.
Of those bites, at least 20% will require medical attention.
A dog bite injury can range from a small puncture to the flesh to missing digits and severe disfigurement.
Although the dog itself is the instrument of the attack, it is the owner of the dog that must take the responsibility.
In owning a dog you are assuming the risks associated with that ownership, which includes the risk that they will attack and injure someone.
There are several employment positions that are particularly susceptible to dog bite injury for obvious reasons, like mail carriers, pet store workers, newspaper delivery people, package delivery professionals and waste or recycling collectors.
If you are involved in one of these industries, you perform a valuable service for the other members of your community.
It is only right that they should be held responsible for the actions of the animals that also live on their property.
If you have been bitten by a dog when you are in the course of your employment, you should know that it is imperative for you to contact a lawyer who is familiar with the law surrounding this occurrence.
If you have been bitten by a dog and sustained a dog bite injury, you may be entitled to financial compensation.
The dog owner, as the responsible party must, at the minimum, pay your related medical expenses.
If the injury that you have sustained will in some way, shape or form inhibit your ability to lead your life in the same way that you did prior to the attack then you may very well be entitled to further financial compensation.
If you are unable to work, you are due lost wages.
If you are severely disfigured, you could be owed pain and suffering.
Don't ever think that you are alone when it comes to dealing with a dog bite injury.
There are injury lawyers that are specially trained to make sure that you're not required to accept any responsibility for an unfortunate experience that you had no control over.
Although many people have dogs, many more do not know how to train them to behave properly, and this should not mean that you are left to be responsible for medical and therapy bills.
You should be compensated for your discomfort.
If you have been the victim of a dog bite injury, the best thing that you can do is consult an attorney that specializes in this sort of case.
Have them review the information and determine whether you are eligible for a settlement of any kind.
A lawyer can advise whether you should seek additional compensation and help you build a case that will help you get that compensation.
There is no reason why you should ever try to work out the legal repercussions of a dog bite injury on your own.
Although you may think that you can settle with the owner's of the dog yourself, you will only be cheating yourself or your family member out of the financial compensations that they deserve.
Being bitten by a dog can create long lasting ramifications long after the scars have healed.
In some cases, nerve and muscle damage has even been inflicted, which will restrict mobility and strength for the rest of your life.
