Most people when asked will almost certainly agree that exercise is very important if not essential in living a healthy and positive lifestyle.
Exercise is not only perfect for young mums losing weight, it is also good for keeping a reasonable body weight, for giving a boost to the metabolic rate and also for burning those unwanted excess calories.
So why do we constantly see news reports telling us that there is an obesity epidemic? There is no single, simple answer to this.
Overeating and a lack of motivation to exercise can be caused by a multitude of reasons.
Women, in particular are given a hard time when it comes to being overweight, constantly bombarded by magazine articles and chat show items about how incredible some Hollywood A-lister looks even after having a baby! No wonder busy mums feel exasperated, worn out and discouraged.
But there is hope! The very fact that you are reading this tells me that you have taken the first tentative steps towards wanting to feel fitter and healthier and become a fit yummy mummy.
And that is vitally important.
I've put together some tips and pointers which I hope will be helpful in reaching and maintaining your ideal body weight.
This is especially great for ladies as pregnancy and childbirth can put an extra strain on their bodies and lead them to be more susceptible to osteoporosis.
Not to mention that many women are under the pressure of keeping themselves attractive.
First of all don't worry that your exercise routine is not enough, it is important to keep the commitment you make.
Ideally, we are advised to exercise three to five times a week for 20-60 minutes.
However, this is not exactly the case in the real world, especially for busy mums.
You should not frustrate yourself by aiming for the ideal when you know for yourself that it is utterly impossible.
If you can manage to exercise twice a week for twenty minutes per session, that will do just fine.
It is best to focus on doing what you know you can do than to reproach yourself for having not done enough.
Start from this point and then progress on afterwards.
This should make you feel successful for having kept your commitment to yourself.
You can easily start by just going for a walk! Sounds too simple doesn't it? Getting some fresh air can not only start you on the road to a fitter lifestyle but can also help with your emotional well-being, something often overlooked.
Don't be afraid to try resistance or training with weights.
Using lighter weights won't turn you into some muscle bound freak but it will certainly tone you up and keep those 'bingo wings' at bay! Remember, don't pressure yourself too much; start slowly and build up, and maybe give yourself a few words of encouragement along the way.
Try and make it fun and look forward to being a healthier, fitter yummy mummy!
