Heart Disease Coronary Artery Blockage

Blocked coronary artery is number one killer in the World. It has become a common disease all over the World especially in the countries which have rich dietary habits. Though there may be medical reasons the disease is more due to lifestyle.

People who consume excess fat, smoke and consume high levels of alcohol are at risk. People with sedentary or very hectic lifestyle are equally at risk especially those who do not exercise at all.

The coronary arteries are vital as they nourish the heart with oxygen rich blood. Hence blockages in this arterial system can be very dangerous for the heart. These blood vessels are always smooth and elastic with clear cavity such that the blood flows freely in them.

Fats, chemicals, proteins, metals and many other substances form deposits in the vessels and harden. This causes a blockage and forms an interruption for flow of blood. This hardened deposit can also damage the inner walls of the vessels. These deposits are also called plaque in medical term. As a defense mechanism new arteries may be formed but they are not able to take on as much stress as the original ones.

Angina pain, ischemia and heart attack can occur if the malady goes untreated. One must remember that many people will not have any symptoms in the early stage. It is better if regular check up is done in an expert cardiologists clinic.

Treatment of Coronary Artery Blockage

The best treatment is a healthy lifestyle where hectic movement, undue stress and over eating have to be avoided. Exercise in moderation is a must and it must be done regularly in clean and peaceful environment.

In case of advanced disease medical treatment is a must. Initially tablets are advised by the cardiologist but advance stage may require invasive treatments like angioplasty or even surgery. Balloon angioplasty, stent placement, bypass and other surgical procedures are some of the surgical treatments that accord relief. But these are costly procedures and a certain risk is involved.

In the current times alternative heart treatments are being developed of which many are already popular. EECP or enhanced external counter pulsation is one such treatment which is non invasive. This is used in order to avoid angioplasty, stent placement and bypass surgery.

Hence EECP is effective alternative to the above mention procedures and virtually act as non surgical by pass or angioplasty. With more research and development effective cures and prevention technique are being developed. But there is nothing better than a good healthy lifestyle.
