Irish Hotel Reviews - The G Hotel, Galway, Ireland
About.com Rating
The Bottom Line
Unashamed 5 star luxury in an award-winning hotel in Galway, West Ireland. The hotel offers the ultimate in style with no sacrifice of comfort.
The hotel was designed by renowned milliner and Galway native Phillip Treacy. His design-influence is apparent in everything from tiny door handles, artworks, furniture, sculpture and fabrics throughout the 18000 square feet of the public rooms and bedrooms alike.
Food at the hotel is modern but well rooted in its Irish roots with many twists on traditional dishes. The close proximity to Galway bay assures seafood features strongly on the menu.

Images of the G Hotel
First Impression of the G Hotel
Do not, as I did, prejudge the G hotel before you pass through its doors. Driving from Knock airport we almost sped past the hotel but saw the sign, swung sharply round the corner only to be faced with a shopping centre complete with cinema and a PC world? Not what we had expected.
Entering the hotel from the back car park did nothing to ease our bewilderment, it was dark and a little shabby. Stepping into the glamorous foyer though, all those preconceptions melted away in an instant.
The G is on the edge of Galway town and a busy main road separates the hotel from the beauty of the view across Loch Atalia. Though I imagined this would be irritating there was simply too many lovely thing to look at inside to even notice the traffic. My favourite 'decoration' was the seahorses in the aquarium. I fell in love with them.
Inside the G Hotel
The hotel was designed by renowned milliner and Galway native Phillip Treacy. His design-influence is apparent in everything from tiny door handles, artworks, furniture, sculpture and fabrics throughout the 18,000 sq ft of public rooms and bedrooms alike. Colours in the public rooms are audacious and I wanted to not like the particularly bold scheme in Matz restaurant but like all the moves, it wins you over.Bedrooms at G Hotel
Rooms are especially spacious and very well appointed. After the zing and glitz in the public rooms, these bathe you in a sense of calm and order, not surprising given Treacy was inspired by the landscapes and seashores of Galway. Colours are soft, beds are extremely comfy, bathrooms are inviting and nothing (save a tea tray) has been overlooked. The weather outside was glorious but even that was not enough to tempt me away from the comfort of our room. I just wanted gaze at the lovely view. Plus, there was a fireplace begging to be lit, a generously sized flat-screened TV to keep the husband happy and for my viewing, I had the option of running a long, hot bath, laying back and enjoying the TV above the bath. Even cup cakes had been left for us to nibble on, but ringing down for an afternoon cuppa rather than being able to make one in the room made our in-room mini afternoon less than spontaneous.
The ESpa at G Hotel
For the weary traveler, it takes no time for the G Hotel to soothe you as it envelops you in its sumptuous charms but if there are any edges not responding, then head to the thermal suite and Espa spa. I'd be wary of planning too much after even 30 minutes in the suite. Cascading water and jet fountains bombard you in the vitality pool, heat up steam or sauna or chill down with the ice fountain. Relax on heated loungers or head for the quiet room overlooking the zen garden and for the ultimate in pampering book an Espa treatment. I did and it was heavenly. I was in a daze for hours after and that night, slept better than I had in weeks.Dinner and Breakfast at G Hotel, Galway
