How to Make a Tee Shirt Blanket
- 1). Cut each t-shirt into a 14-by-14-inch square with a pair of scissors, using any part of the shirt you like--preferably any front or back designs without seams. You will typically need 16 shirts to make a medium-sized blanket for lounging.
- 2). Assemble shirt pieces into a 4-shirt by 4-shirt grid.
- 3). Sew the blocks together using a sewing machine. Stitch up each edge of the blocks together using a 1/8-inch seam allowance. Sew four blocks together, four times. Once the blocks are attached, sew each row together using a 1/8-inch seam allowance--attaching all four rows together to create a single front panel.
- 4). Trim batting according to width and length of the quilted panel. Measure a large piece of fabric to accommodate the size of the quilted panel to use for the backing. Attach all three layers together, folding the edges of the fabric and shirt quilt under 1/4 inch, and sew around the entire quilt using a sewing machine.
