Quick Homemade Meals
- Fill a 9 by 9-inch square baking dish with 1 cup of wild rice and 2 cups of water. Heavily season four boneless skin-on chicken breasts with minced onions and garlic and sage powder. Place the chicken breasts with the skin sides facing up, on the rice and then bake at 350 degrees F for about an hour. Check frequently to prevent the tops of the chicken breasts from burning, and about 30 minutes before you take the chicken out, put a dab of butter on each breast to give them a golden appearance. The preparation time on this meal is about 10 minutes, and you can let it cook while you spend quality time with your family.
- Cook a large roast in a slow cooker for about 12 hours. This isn't a quick meal, but you can throw everything into the slow cooker, which takes about five minutes, and then simply walk away for the day. By the time your family has come home for the evening, dinner will be ready to eat. Many modern slow cookers have timers that will even let you know when the food is ready, so you don't have to keep checking.
- Making a large dinner salad is quick, with very little cleanup needed afterward, and you can get creative with what you add to it. For a filling and beautiful dinner salad, throw in a pound of cooked, cubed chicken breast, shredded colby-jack cheese, and pre-packaged real bacon crumbles. These add-ins make for a great meal when mixed with salad greens and tomatoes. Keep a variety of salad dressings in your fridge.
