Starter Tattoo Kits

If you have ever considered a career as a tattoo artist you have probably thought about purchasing a starter tattoo kit.

Most good starter tattoo kits, come with at least one Tattoo machine (what newbs often refer to as a "Tattoo gun" ) a power supply and foot pedal, a selection of liner and shading needles and a small sample of tattoo inks.

The good thing about purchasing a starter tattoo kit like this is if you were to purchase the same items separately as our Tattoo store or most others they would cost you significantly more money. Purchased separately you would probably be looking at three to four times the price to buy the very same items that you can get in a Starter Tattoo kit - so if you are considering being a Tattoo artist as a career but are really not 100% certain purchasing a complete kit is very advisable.

I would also suggest that you look into buying some practice Tattoo skin (which we also sell through our shop) In days gone by people would purchase pig skin (from the butcher shop) but most tattoo artists find that that is only good for learning to outline and doesn't work so well for shading practice. Other Tattoo artists recommend using an orange which I have never found to be that good for learning on. Back in the 70's and 80's most Tattoo artists would not let their apprentices even start on their friends until a year of Tattooing their own legs (the skin of the legs is a lot tighter than other parts of the body which makes it much easier to grip and stretch which ensures the ink hits the right levels of the epidermis so that it stays in.

Most artists that purchase a complete Tattoo kit will also pick up an extra set of Tattoo inks as the ones bundled with most kits only give small amounts and of the basic colors as well.

Once you have been tattooing for a while and decide that it is something you want to dedicate your life to you can easily upgrade your kit by purchasing some deluxe machines and as mentioned above the premium ranges of Tattoo inks that are on offer these days.

A lot of people see the life of a Tattoo artist as portrayed on reality tv and think its all rocks stars and champagne which of course its not but with a lot of hard work you can find its one of the most exciting and rewarding artistic careers you could possibly have.
