Since twenty years, scientists are doing research on hazardous drugs and the harmful effect by using them and how to take safety measures to prevent these exposures.
Exposures to toxic agents may cause many short term and long term effects that can be fatal.
These drugs are considered to be life saving for many patients when used as a medicines but exposure to toxic agents also takes thousands of lives.
Therefore the people who are handling these drugs need to take safety measures compulsorily.
The employees and the worker who are working in the medical field and closer proximity to these drugs are more prone to these toxic exposures.
During the manufacturing of these drugs, various dangerous chemicals and toxicants are used which can be very dangerous to mankind.
Employees who are involved in drug manufacture, waste management and administration are more likely get affected by these exposures.
For many cancers chemotherapy treatment is used to cure the cancer for this they use severe medication which can also affects the person's observing the disease.
The medicines used in this treatment contain many cytotoxic and antineoplastic drugs that can cause various health problems like reproductive disorders skin and eye irritation etc.
Many health care organizations are working hard to provide guidelines to protect the workers from these harmful exposures The guidelines suggested by these organizations are to use closed system drug transfer devices and biological safety cabinets during drug administration.
Sometimes because of the accidental spillage or leakage the surroundings get contaminated very quickly and spread to the all living organisms existing in that area.
The work place should be very clean where these hazardous drugs are handled.
The latest improvement to control the disastrous effects of hazardous drugs is by using closed system equipment with double tissue coating that can control the leakage or spillage of toxic agents.
This equipment is very effective to control the exposures of perilous drugs and contamination but it is very costly and because of this usually most of them don't use it.
