    Setting up a home theater.

    • 1). Choose your home theater location. When choosing a home theater area, consider how many people you want to seat, the size of the television and natural lighting variables. Spaces need to be large enough to accommodate friends and family matching the size of the television to an appropriately sized room. Rooms without many windows is preferable for viewing television in a home theater area.

    • 2). Select dark colors for the walls. Light wall colors reflect light, so in a home theater room, it is important to paint the walls dark colors, such as gray, burgundy, or brown. Surrounding the television with dark colors helps the hues on the screen pop and gives the picture depth and great color contrast.

    • 3). Set up your television and speakers. For optimal viewing pleasure, hang your large television at eye level on the front room wall, so it is not necessary to twist your neck during viewing. Speakers have the best sound quality set on stands or hung on the walls for maximum acoustics.

    • 4). Add cabinets. There are usually many different types of electronic equipment ranging from DVD players to surround-sound elements that are associated with the operation of your theater space. Instead of stacking these items on top of each other in a visually unpleasing manner, place an appropriately sized video equipment cabinet near the television to store all your ancillary video equipment.

    • 5). Consider lighting. Using wall sconces on dimmers is a great way to light your home theater space. Dimmer light gives you the opportunity to let your eyes slowly adjust to the television screen. For added drama, add floor lighting just like the lights found in a real theater.

    • 6). Add carpet to the floors. Carpeting in a home theater space helps contain the sound and gives the television speakers optimal acoustic quality. Choose dark colors to match the walls and also to help the colors on the screen show to their best advantage.

    • 7). Incorporate heavy curtains. Most home theater spaces are located in rooms without a lot of natural light in the way of windows; however, if you choose a room that does have several windows, use heavy, dark draperies that close easily to block out any natural light for maximum visual quality.

    • 8). Choose home theater chairs. Home theater chairs come in all varieties, but they all have the element of comfort upper most in their advantages. Incorporate chairs that easily recline, have drink holders and are made of washable materials for a home theater room that is relaxing, beautiful and functional at the same time.
