    White

    • Not as frequently selected by homeowners as black or brown, white metal roofing has hidden benefits. The lightest shade of roofing available, white reflects more light than any other color. This can help reduce the ambient temperature of the home, lowering the utility bills. Still, white roofing is highly visible and can detract from the overall aesthetic of the house.

    Tan

    • Also a light color, tan does not produce the same light-reflecting effects but is less shocking to the eye than the brightness of pure white. Tan comes in several shades from almost off-white to sand color and light brown.

    Brown

    • A dark color, brown is a popular choice because of its organic look. Lighter shades of brown are warm neutrals, which neither absorb nor reflect too much light. Darker shades of brown that resemble the color of chocolate and darker absorb light and can actually raise the temperature of the home.

    Gray

    • The color of light stone, gray suits both light and dark siding color schemes. Gray, like brown, ranges from light colors that do not absorb or reflect too much light to dark colors that absorb sunlight.

    Black

    • The color of composite and rubber-based shingles, black is a popular color for home roofing and is available in metal roofing for foursquare homes. Although it also suits both light and dark color schemes, black is the darkest color and will raise the ambient temperature of the home more significantly than any other color.

    Green

    • An organic color, green is a cool neutral that neither adds nor subtracts degrees from the home's temperature. Various shades of green are available for metal roofing on the American foursquare from a light sage color to a darker evergreen.

    Blue

    • Another cool neutral, blue comes in shades such as the muted and medium-toned Wedgewood as well as more vibrant and deeper shades. Blue suits siding shades such as white and gray but may clash with other shades of blue siding.

    Red

    • Whether the color of terracotta clay or the brighter color of red brick, red is both a traditional and popular choice for roofing. The American foursquare red metal roof is especially distinctive when using metal tiles that are shaped like handmade terracotta tiles.
