How to Change Your Insurance Coverage
- 1). Decide if you want to keep the current insurance carrier or switch to a new provider. If you want a new provider, use an online insurance quoting service to get a variety of new product profiles for potential new policies.
- 2). Identify all of the coverage options offered by the insurer. For instance, for a car insurance policy, you can choose between full (comprehensive) coverage, which covers the car owner and others, or just basic liability, which covers other drivers. If necessary, get a complete listing of coverage options from the insurance to review before making a decision.
- 3). Review your current insurance coverage elections. Determine which items you wish to update, such as a higher coverage limit for a life insurance policy to help cover additional debts, or an additional rider to a home insurance policy to cover a newly built wing of a house.
- 4). Call the insurance company to request a change to your coverage options as you've decided. You can also visit the office of your current insurer to make this change. If using a new insurer, simply provide your new coverage options when securing the policy.
- 5). Ask for confirmation of your new options as well as the new quote for coverage. Determine the amount of your next insurance payment based on the updated coverage options.
