How to Apply a Perm (Relaxer) African American Hair
- 1). Apply the perm solution on up to 80% of your hair. This will ensure that some elasticity remains in your hair, which is essential for body, bounce and strength. But if you're wearing a short hairstyle, it's fine to apply the perm beyond the 80%.
- 2). To make the perming process easier, divide your hair into four to six sections. This will also ensure that the perm reaches all of the roots of your hair and straighten it evenly. Also put petroleum jelly around all the edges of your hair before you start the perm to reduce scabs around the neckline and hairline during the process.
- 3). Wash your hair more than once to ensure that all of the perm is out of your hair. If some of the perm remains in your hair after washing, it will cause your hair to over process and this leads to hair breakage. Also be sure to use a neutralizing shampoo and conditioner to help moisturize your hair after washing the perm out.
