How to Caulk Rubber Sleeve Pipe Flashing on a Roof
- 1). Remove leaves, dirt or other debris around the rubber pipe flashing. Ensure the roof area is clean and dry.
- 2). Insert the gutter and flashing sealant into the caulking gun by pulling the handle all the way out and insert the caulk. Then push the handle in until pushing firmly up against the tube of caulk.
- 3). Cut approximately 1/8 inch to ¼ inch of the tip of the caulking tube tip with a utility knife. Cut the tip of the tube at an angle, or straight; either way works the same.
- 4). Put the tip of the caulk tube touching the seam between the rubber flashing and pipe. Squeeze the trigger and pull the gun totally around the pipe. Rotate the handle to stop the flow of caulk; wipe the tip clean with a wet rag.
- 5). Carefully push the bead of caulk around the entire seam with your finger. This will ensure a good seal and a uniform surface.
