    Light

    • A "light" skin peel is used for people in their late 20s and early 30s with minimal signs of aging. It refreshes the skin without causing noticeable peeling afterward. Each peel is rated with a percentage level. According to the Total Skin and Beauty website, the intensity of a light peel is rated between 10 percent and 30 percent.

    Medium

    • A "medium" strength peel is for people who can tolerate a more intense peel and need advanced work, like evening out their skin tone. The peel stimulates collagen and elastin to improve the skin's appearance. The Total Skin and Beauty website rates the intensity level of a medium peel between 35 percent and 50 percent.

    Deep

    • A "deep" peel is used when skin has suffered extreme damage from the sun, smoking and aging. This peel isn't recommended as a first-time peel because of its high intensity of skin regeneration. According to the Total Skin and Beauty website, any peel rated higher than 50 percent is a deep peel. The Skin-Peel website notes that there are deep peels rated as high as 70 percent.
