It was a Sunday afternoon, on the hike trails of Turner's Hall Wood, the last fifty plus acres of the most well preserved forests. The Wood represents the most plant species rich forest on Barbados, and the terrain is steep, clay and sand stone hills with narrow footpaths along the ridges' knife edges. There was a group of regular hikers numbering approximately fifty strong, and he was among them, fit and able.
He was in fine form, and this was his favorite hiking trail, rugged, challenging, with a hint of danger, especially since conditions were slightly wet, this Sunday. He carried with him, however a nagging discomfort, loneliness, a longing for a life partner, but not just any female partner.
He knew that she must be righteous, must love and desire to live like Christ, and be an outdoors person. She must be clear about who she is, and be comfortable with herself. So, naturally, he was on the lookout for such a lady, but was not being anxious about his quest.
The group was in a steep climb up to the narrow ridge trail, with rope assistance, and as usual, he was helping hikers who were experiencing some difficulty ascending.
There was this one lady who after being helped up to the top, inquired of his name. This he found to be unusual, since no one over the years, had ever asked his name after offering the customary assistance, so his curiosity was awakened.
This innocently simple act prompted him to observe her. As the hike continued, and at one stage when a small group was far ahead of the main group, there was even greater opportunity to study the lady.
Of course, she and four others were in this small group,and from a respectable distance he began to "see" her as God revealed to him the essence of this Godly woman.
By the time the hike was on the move again, he had firmly concluded, that keeping very close to her was now his priority, which he smoothly engineered. At all the very challenging sections he was there to guide and assist her safely. She was very appreciative of his help, and he did his very best to ensure that they kept in touch.
Upon reaching the highest point, he fell, fell for her that is, for today, they are husband and wife. All that was revealed to him, by God, up there on that narrow ridge trail, about her, she has verified. Hiking on Barbados, can be a positively life changing experience.
