Liposuction is such a popular form of cosmetic surgery that women are taking to it in very large numbers.
These days, women of all ages go for liposuction in order to remove excess fat from certain parts of their body that could greatly benefit from sculpting.
The problem with the immense popularity of liposuction is that people tend to ignore the fact that this procedure is very risky and should not be resorted to without careful consideration.
There are many risks that can come from undergoing this procedure and they vary in intensity.
At the very extreme is death from complications during the surgery.
One reason for fatalities is the collection of fluid in the lungs that is known as pulmonary edema.
Another reason is due to a fatal reaction to anesthetic.
These fatal reactions are very uncommon, but they are not unheard of and a person should go in for liposuction knowing about this.
Another problem that can happen during the procedure is the passing of some fat into the bloodstream.
This fat can cause blood clots and they can have very serious consequences.
More common but nevertheless unwanted side effects are numbness, nerve damage and scarring.
There are some people who have complained of lumpiness of the treated area due to uneven removal of fat.
Laser liposuction is relatively easier than traditional forms of liposuction, but it can have some negative side effects such as burning.
The lasers can burn tissues both internally as well as externally, leading to a great deal of discomfort as well as delayed recovery time.
What is common to all these problems that range from death to discomfort is that they usually occur due to the plastic surgeon's or anesthetist's fault.
A woman therefore has to make absolutely sure that the plastic surgeon she goes to is completely qualified and very experienced.
Some of these problems, especially the unevenness of the treated area can be rectified with follow up surgery after 6 months or so, but this involves a lot of expense and discomfort that was wholly unnecessary.
It makes a lot more sense to go to a well qualified plastic surgeon that has a good track record, even if the surgeon is more expensive.
This will save the patient a good deal of trouble and money in the long run, in addition to the fact that an expert plastic surgeon will be able to offer excellent results.
