Earth Day, Find a Better Way
I am not suggesting anyone "do without", but rather to find a better way.
Do we really need the fuel we import from other countries or can we focus on migrating to alternate, cleaner fuel sources we get from our own country? Natural gas and electric Hybrids are a start.
Another place to look is in our own homes and offices.
How can we make sure we are not wasting the electricity we currently have access to? The heating and air conditioning units consume the majority of the electricity in most homes, hotels, and business offices.
Is it feasible to automatically "let it drift" while we are not physically present? If a single motel were to simply shut off the heating and air conditioning (HVAC) in rooms while they are vacant they would save between 20% and 35% of their HVAC electrical use.
This is equivalent to taking 1,000 mid-sized cars off the road per year*.
If a homeowner were to do the same or even adjust the setbacks settings on a programmable thermostat, they would save between 18 and 20% on HVAC electrical usage.
If you live in Sacramento, CA that would also mean you could potentially save $141 on your annual bill!* These simple tasks save the environment and save money.
I challenge each of you to do something different.
Find a better way.
Make a plan.
Write it down.
It may be something long term like choosing a Hybrid or Natural Gas vehicle the next time you purchase transportation.
It may be doing something different to not waste electricity in your home or in your office such as installing smart thermostats and programming them.
Let's appreciate the great life and resources we have while finding a way to avoid wasting these precious resources!
