Expressing Yourself Visually by Learning to Draw
Why would you learn how to draw, and not paint, model clay, or an other art form? Simple: learning how to draw is easy, and knowing how to draw gives you a very solid base to learn other art disciplines from.
Drawing is your gateway art form. Or at least, it can be. For many people drawing by itself is more than satisfactory. Whether or not this applies to you is for you to find out, but there can be no doubt that learning to draw will be a great starting point.
But how do you get started? Where do you begin? First, it is very important for you to realize that drawing does not have to be hard at all. The feeling of intimidation caused by the quality gap between established artists and beginners is all too common. It is very true that developing your drawing skills can take time, because there is a lot to learn, but do not forget that everyone has to start somewhere. Even the greatest artist started with simple doodles.
The key is to keep practicing, and to keep learning. The whole learning process is very much about persistence. But this persistence will pay off. You see, once you've been drawing long enough your brain will do all the hard work for you. This is why it seems that 'real' artists can create beautiful artworks almost effortlessly, they have just sufficiently trained themselves to be able to do that.
Quite frankly, there is no reason why you can't be very good at expressing yourself visually either. Trust me when I say that it is very satisfying. So pick up a pencil, start doodling, start looking for good techniques that you can use, and keep at it, and you'll be drawing like a pro in no time!
