Scholarships for Hospitality Management Majors
- The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) offers several scholarships to hospitality majors who are pursuing a program of study relating to food service. The Al Schuman Ecolab Undergraduate Entrepreneurial Scholarship is available in amounts ranging from $3,000 to $5,000, as of 2011. General undergraduate scholarships are available in the amount of $2,500. To be eligible for NRAEF scholarships, an applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. and be enrolled for a minimum of nine credit-hours per semester.
- The American Hotel and Lodging Association offers a variety of scholarships to hospitality management majors across the United States. In 2011, the American Express Scholarship was available in amounts of up to $2,000 to both part-time and full-time students. The Hyatt Hotels Fund for Minority Lodging Management Students is available in the amount of $2,000 to hospitality management majors who belong to a minority group. The AH&LEF Incoming Freshman Scholarship is available in amounts of up to $2,000 to freshman hospitality management students with a grade point average of 2.0 or above. Other available scholarships include the Ecolab Scholarship and the AH&LEF Graduate Scholarship.
- The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) offers several scholarships to hospitality management majors. Some ASTA scholarships, such as the $2,000 ASTA Arizona Undergraduate Scholarship, awarded in 2010, and the $2,000 ASTA Northern California Chapter Richard Epping Undergraduate Scholarship are available only to students in certain geographical locations. Others, such as the $2,000 ASTA Avis Budget Group Graduate Scholarship and the $2,500 ASTA Arnold Rigby Graduate Scholarship are available nationally. ASTA scholarships are administered by the website Tourism Cares.
- Many states have professional organizations related to hospitality management that provide scholarship money directly to students within the state. For example, the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association offers several scholarships to hospitality management students, including the $2,000 Richard B. Guggenheim Scholarship, the $5,000 J. Patrick Leahy Connoisseur Scholarship, and the $5,000 Robert J. Cataldo Scholarship, all as of 2011. The Arkansas Tourism and Hospitality Education Foundation offers similar scholarships valued at between $500 and $2,000.
