    • 1). Feel the underside of the old spout to determine the type of spout. If you feel a screw, the spout is a slip-on. If you do not feel a screw, the spout is a screw-on.

    • 2). Remove old caulk around the faucet with a utility knife.

    • 3). Loosen the screw on a slip-on spout with a hex wrench. To remove a screw-on spout, twist the entire spout counterclockwise manually.

    • 4). Loosen the nipple that connects the spout to the wall piping with a pipe wrench. Use an internal pipe wrench if the nipple is too short to get a grip with a standard pipe wrench.

    • 5). Line the threading on both sides of the new faucet nipple with plumber's tape and screw into the wall's piping.

    • 6). Place the new faucet over the nipple and turn clockwise until tight. If the new faucet is a slip-on, slide the faucet over the nipple and tighten the screw on the underside with a hex wrench.

    • 7). Cut the tip of a tube of caulk to make a 1/4-inch opening. Slide the caulk into a caulk gun and slowly depress the trigger to release caulk completely around the seam between the faucet and wall. Smooth the caulk with a wet finger.
