Speyside has a lot to offer:
  • To the north lies Spynie Castle and the ruins of Duffus Castle.
    You'll also find Elgin with its many shops, fine buildings, cathedral and the Elgin Museum.
    Elgin is also the start of the Moray Church Trail.
  • To the north-east is Fochabers -a charming 18th-century village, and Baxter's Highland Village.
  • Visit Scotland's largest ice house at Tugnet, heart of the salmon-netting industry.
    The Speyside Way long-distance walk passes here.
    Buckie and Lossiemouth at either end of the bay have fishing museums.
  • To the south west lie the Cairngorm Mountains and the 2km long funicular railway.
    Visit the RSPB osprey hide near Loch Garten then take the Strathspey Steam Railway from Boat of Garten to Aviemore, famous for skiing and winter sports.
  • Enjoy the treetop trail and Wild Water Coaster at the Landmark Forest Heritage Park, Carrbridge.
  • Walker's Shortbread Factory Shop is at nearby Aberlour - which also has a supermarket.
  • Ballindalloch, castle home of the Lairds of Ballindalloch since 1546, is home to the oldest Aberdeen Angus herd.
  • In the Drummuir Castle Estate is Loch Park Adventure Centre -with lots of activities for children.
  • Near Dufftown is Balvenie Castle.
  • Whisky barrels are made at the Speyside Cooperage at Craigellachie.
    This is a good place to start your exploration of the Whisky Trail, including the Macallan distillery-the Rolls Royce of whiskies.
  • There are many excellent golf courses locally.
    Fishing is available on the river Spey and on various local lochs.
    The quiet roads are ideal for cycling.
    There are plenty of walks from the site.
  • There is a post office and general store at Archiestown, VA> miles from the site, and a popular restaurant just 300m away.
