- 1). Mark your preferred vacation times on the calendar and make sure everyone in your group is free during those times. Understand that you'll receive a cheaper rate for buying a timeshare if you travel at off-peak times and that renting a timeshare in a ski area in the winter or a beach resort in the summer spells higher prices.
- 2). Study your finances before you begin shopping. Commit to a maximum budget. With a timeshare rental, you'll get a house and all its contents, but you will have additional expenses. You will still need to provide groceries, alcohol and transportation to the timeshare, for example.
- 3). List the amenities that are important to you in a timeshare, such as the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, the landscape facilities (such as a grill or a swimming pool) or whether you need laundry on-site. Rank the list from most important to least important and decide what you can't live without.
- 4). Shop for a timeshare you can buy by the week at several industry websites, such as Timeshare Lifestyle and Vacation Timeshare and Rentals. You'll be buying a timeshare directly from someone who doesn't need it at that time. Filter search results by budget, time frame or number of bedrooms.
- 5). Correspond with the timeshare seller via email or telephone. Ask about the rental condition of the timeshare and the condition you need to leave it in. Find out if you need to pay cleaning or damages deposits, and how you get those back. Ask about amenities in the timeshare itself and in nearby communities.
- 6). Request a copy of the contract you'll be signing plus additional images of the timeshare, if you want to see more photographs. Review the contract carefully.
- 7). Purchase a timeshare rental when you find a place that's in your budget and available for one of the weeks you've selected. Pay the deposit and sign a contract to complete the timeshare purchase.
