    • 1). Lay a piece of foam padding or an old yoga mat on a flat surface.

    • 2). Place a pair of the child's shoes on the foam padding, sole-down. Trace around the shoes with a marker or a piece of chalk.

    • 3). Remove the shoes and cut out the shoe shapes from the foam padding. Use the shapes to make three more pairs of cutouts.

    • 4). Apply glue from the glue gun to the top of one of the left shoe shapes and place an identical shape on top. Smooth the two pieces together. Glue one more layer to the top. Do the same to join three layers of the right shoe shapes. Set these aside to dry.

    • 5). Place the remaining left and right cutouts on the ground and have the child stand on the shapes. Make a mark in between the child's big toe and second toe on each shoe shape.

    • 6). Pierce a small hole through the mark on each shoe. The hole needs to go all the way through the foam. Cut two pieces of foam padding that each measure approximately ½-inch wide by 10-inches long.

    • 7). Insert one end of one of the strips through the puncture mark on the cutout, and pull about and inch through the hole. Glue this bit to the underside of the shoe.

    • 8). Have the child step on the shoe shape. Wrap the long piece of the strip protruding from the top around the child's big toe, underneath the shoe shape to the opposite side of the shoe. Bring the strip up over top of the child's toes and insert the end into the same puncture mark. Do the same with the other shoe shape and foam strip.

    • 9). Glue the foam strip to the underside of the shoe. Cut of any extra length.

Apply a layer of glue to the underside of the cutouts that have the foam strips attached. Press the shapes firmly against the top of the stacked shoe shapes that you joined earlier.

Decorate the foam straps. Apply glue to the back of imitation gemstones and press them against the straps. Alternatively, cut 6-inch lengths of ½-inch-wide ribbon and wrap each length around the flip-flop strap. Tie each ribbon in a bow. Repeat to cover the entire strap in ribbons.
