Safety pins are a common household item that can be used in a creative way to make crafts. The slender needle of the safety pin is a perfect place to place small beads to add color and texture to crafts. Angel crafts made with safety pins may use the pins in the body and wings of the angel, or you can adhere a clay angel to the safety pin to create a brooch. - Create a flat decorative angel using 11 safety pins---five in size 4 and six in size 2. You will also need at least 70 pony beads in any colors that you would like, a 16mm wooden bead for the head, 30 inches of cord and white craft glue. Fold the cord in half and tie a knot 1/2 inch beyond the fold to keep the cord together. The section above the tie will be used to hang the finished angel. Place four beads onto each of four size 2 safety pins. Place two beads on the remaining two size 2 pins. Place four beads on two size 4 pins, five beads on two size 4 pins and six beads on the remaining size 4 pin. Arrange the beaded pins with three size 2 pins on each side to create the wings, and the size 4 pins forming a skirt, with the six-bead pin in the center. Thread both ends of the cord through the wooden bead and through the centers and the ends of each safety pin to keep the pins in place. Tie at the bottom to finish the angel.
- Form an angel using modeling clay and allow the clay to dry per the manufacturer's directions. Embellish as desired and use hot glue or super glue to adhere a safety pin to the flat back of the angel. Wear the pin as a brooch.
- Place long rice beads on nine safety pins, and thread wire through the holes in the pins to create a skirt. Slide a bead onto the wire to create the body and head. Cut a small length of wire to place horizontally for arms, and use rice beads to give the arms definition. Adhere a small halo made from wire to the area above the head to complete the angel.
