Do it Yourself Envelopes
- 1). Draw a 6-inch by 4-inch rectangle in the center of the card stock. This is the back of the envelope and is the part where the letter will go. Lay the card stock so that the 6 inches are situated horizontally.
- 2). Draw the bottom flap of the envelope. This flap is drawn beneath the already created rectangle. The bottom flap should be a rectangle that measures 6 inches by 3 inches.
- 3). Draw the top flap right above the center rectangle. The top flap should be 6 inches by 2 inches. The entire outline of the envelope should measure 6 inches by 9 inches.
- 4). Use the center rectangle as a guide and draw side flaps that will hold the envelope together. On the right side of the center rectangle, draw a 1 1/2-inch wide by 3-inch high flap. Repeat the same for the left side of the center rectangle. The side flaps should be connected on both sides of the center flap; if you were to measure the center rectangle including the side flaps, it would be a rectangle measuring 9 inches by 3 inches.
- 5). Lay the card stock on top of the cardboard. Lay the ruler over the outer lines of the envelope outline and cut carefully with the box cutter. The ruler will allow for the edges to be cut straight.
- 6). Fold the small side tabs in using a ruler to make the fold smoother. Use the ruler to crease the bottom flap upward. Unfold the bottom flap and add glue to the outside of the small flaps. Fold the bottom flap up again and press against the small flaps and glue together.
- 7). Fold the top flap downward. Allow the glue on the side flaps to dry and then add your letter. Once the letter is inside the envelope, add glue to the inside of the top flap and seal the envelope.
