Seated Back Exercises

Exercise, in general, is important to your health. Back exercises are especially important because they help ease current back pain, as well as prevent future injuries. Some back exercises utilize gym weight machines, and others can be performed with free weights. It's important to include exercises that work out the upper, middle and lower back muscles. There are a few seated exercises that can effectively work out the muscles in the back. - A V bar is a type of handle that attaches to a pull-down weight. Sit in front of the V bar, facing the bar. Use both hands to pull the bar down toward your chest. This should cause your elbows to point down toward the floor. This particular exercises works out the back, as well as the shoulders.
- This exercise targets your middle back muscles. Straddle a workout bench, and rest your chest on the inclined portion of the bench. Pick up a dumbbell in each hand, and raise them straight up into the air. This should cause your elbows to point up toward the ceiling. It's important to choose dumbbells that aren't too heavy, so you don't cause back strain.
- A seated cable row exercises the middle back muscles, as well as the arms. Sit down at a cable row machine. Your legs should slightly bent. Bend over slightly, and grab the handle attached to the pulley with both hands. Pull the handle toward you as you straighten your back. Continue to keep you back straight as your repeat the exercise.
