How to Make Fiberglass Arrows
- 1). Cover the entire shaft of the arrow using strapping tape. Make the tape as smooth as possible. Measure and mark 1/2 inch from one end of the arrow.
- 2). Place the arrow blunt on the marked end of the shaft. Force the blunt on if necessary. The blunt should be pushed down to the 1/2 inch mark to ensure it is securely in place. Don't worry if any tape comes off during this process.
- 3). Cut the foam camping pad into two squares with the scissors. They should each measure about 1 3/8 inches across in both directions.

Cut two pieces of strapping tape about 9 inches long. Place the strips of tape perpendicular to one another with the cut foam square in the center. Orient the square diagonally so the tape covers the corners of the square. - 5). Place the square pad against the blunted tip and pull the tape tightly around the shaft as neatly as possible. Pull the corners of the foam square lightly around the blunt. Do not compress the pad too tightly or it will be less effective.
- 6). Make sure the tape is securely fastened to all sides of the arrow. Use pressure to make sure everything is tightly attached.
- 7). Repeat Steps 4 through 6, but when you place the taped square pad against the now foam covered blunt, rotate the second piece 45 degrees. This allows the corners of the foam to cover gaps in the padding. Wrap the tape tightly around the arrow while compressing the pad slightly.
- 8). Cut a piece of strapping tape a few inches long. Wrap this tightly around the top of the arrow shaft, just below the blunted tip. This secures the tape and prevents unraveling.
- 9). Begin wrapping strapping tape around the entire arrow blunt, starting toward the middle of the blunt. Overlap the tape slightly and be sure not to pull the tape too tight. The padded arrow blunt should be completely wrapped without compressing the foam too much.

Cut two pieces of electrical tape 10 inches long. Place them perpendicular to one another and cover the padded blunt the same way the padding was attached. The tape should be secured tightly along the blunted tip to the arrow shaft. Be careful not to weaken the tape by stretching it. - 11
Wrap electrical tape around the entire arrow blunt. Overlap the tape slightly and cover the head of the blunt down to the top of the arrow shaft as neatly as possible. Any protruding tape will affect aerodynamics. - 12
Measure the completed arrow blunt. It should be at least 1 1/4 inches across as dictated by SCA rules. Also check the foam to make sure there is at least 1 inch. Compressing the foam too much reduces its effectiveness. - 13
Attach the ADP above the arrow knock using glue and allow the arrow to set until dry. Make sure the APD is securely attached to the shaft before use.
