How to Add Poems to Flower Pots
- 1). Clean the flower pots to remove any soil, dust or grime. Allow the flower pots to dry completely.
- 2). Cover the outside of the flower pots in background color using acrylic paints. Acrylics work on terra cotta, ceramic and metal flower pots. If you are painting a glass flower pot, use craft paint designed specifically for glass. Allow the paint to dry.
- 3). Apply a second coat of the background color to the flower pots, and let it dry. Two coats should be sufficient for most ceramic or metal flower pots; terra cotta pots will need three or four coats.
- 4). Draw straight lines using a very light pencil along the side of the flower pot where you plan to add the poem. The lines are guides for the words in the poem. Determine how many lines you need for the poem, measure the height of the flower pot and space the lines according to the available height. If you plan to encircle the flower pot with the poem, measure the line placement's distance from the rim, and place dots around the pot following this measurement. Connect the dots in a light pencil line.
- 5). Write the poem on the lines on the pot with a paint pen. Glass paint pens are available for writing on a glass surface. If you are not comfortable free handing the poem, tape stencil letters and fill them in with paint. Rubber stamps with words and letters are also an option for adding poems to flower pots.
- 6). Allow the painted poem to dry completely. Spray the outside of the flower pot with exterior polyurethane to seal and protect the painted surface. Let the polyurethane dry, and then add another coat.
