How to Fix a Whistling Showerhead
- 1). Connect the garden hose to an outdoor faucet and run the other end across the lawn. Remove any spray nozzle attached to the hose.
- 2). Shut off the main water valve in the building by turning the knob completely clockwise. The valve is usually located downstairs, near the water heater or at the street.
- 3). Turn on all faucets in the house, including the shower, then open the outdoor faucet connected to the hose. Wait for the water to drain, then close all faucets.
- 4). Unscrew the showerhead from the pipe in the wall, using pliers.
- 5). Use a rag to wipe grime from the pipe threads and clean inside the showerhead.
- 6). Wrap the pipe threads with Teflon tape and cut the tape end with scissors.
- 7). Reattach the showerhead to the pipe and tighten with pliers.
- 8). Open the main water valve in the house.
