Scooter Oil Recovery
- Many early scooters still on the road today operate on two-stroke engines. This design combines the engine oil with gas and burns up the entire mixture in the cylinder. As a result, oil recovery occurs only with the drainage of transmission oil. Gearbox oil is drained from a plug underneath the engine cases.
- Modern scooters requires transmission and engine oil recovery at regular intervals. Engine oil circulates similar to a car engine and needs to be drained to remove impurities caught in the oil. The same goes for the transmission oil. The two cannot be mixed.
- Regardless of whether the scooter oil consists of synthetic or mineral oil, it should never be re-used once drained. The drainage includes dirt, grit, bits of engine metal and carbon that needs to be removed. Fresh oil should always be inserted during an oil change-out.
