Hypnosis is a psychological state where a person enters into a state of almost unconsciousness from all other thought process barring a specifically focused thought for a short period of time. Hypnotism does not occur naturally, this state of brain is induced by external message, stimuli by some expert person who knows the art to hypnotize. In fact, the hypnotized person only focuses on a single point what the hypnotist wants him to follow. It may be termed as altered state of conscious awareness only.
Hypnosis is practiced since ancient time in many countries around the world and subsequently spread across the world. Modern psychological hypnosis was developed in 1843 by a Scottish physician named James Braid. Earlier to this development of 'hypnosis' 'mesmerism' which was practiced for trance healing process. Hypnotists convince and influence the subject by enchanting prayer-kind of rhymes, visual display of sticks rotating in front of his eyes by which action the subject enters into a semi conscious state and remembers only what the hypnotizer wants him to do or say.
Many magicians apply hypnotism on subjects and make them say or act what the hypnotist or magician suggests to the subjects. This appears to be a great surprise to the spectators. But hypnotism is no wonder but science. In subsequent days hypnotism has been used not only in magic shows but in psycho-therapy also. This mechanism helps a patient to concentrate on a particular issue that he can visualize overcastting all other thoughts. This deep concentrated state of brain has little or no scope to perceive anything else but the subject the patient wants to think of. Such state of hypnotism brings about a havoc belief and strength in the patient to overcome the sufferings of diseases.
Some may compare hypnosis with hysteria while some find its close relation with meditation or yoga. Many persons are seen to keep on telling about past, future or fate, may it be right or wrong when under influence of hysteria. In fact hysteria is a disease while is a scientific way of deep concentration that may have some similarity with hypnotism. Like yoga is practiced to get relief from pain and other diseased condition, hypnotherapy is given by practitioners as palliative or curative to diseased conditions like psychotic conditions, lack of self confidence, lack of concentration, immunological disorders, glaucoma etc. Asthma, migraine, emotional issues are not usually curative in conventional allopathic medications. Hypnotherapy plays a very successful role to control such diseases. In modern days when stress and strain of busy life come on the way of performance many try to get rid of such situation through self hypnotism. One has to practice hard with the help of professionals to acquire the technique of self hypnotism.
