    • 1). Cut a 3-foot length of silk beading string.

    • 2). Pull the string through the container of beading wax. Thread the waxed string through the eye of the needle. Pull a 15-inch tail through the eye. The longest string is the working thread. The tail becomes the working thread as you make the jewelry.

    • 3). Tie a surgeons knot 3 inches from the end of the working string. To make a surgeon's knot, form a loop with the string and pass the end of the silk string through the loop two times. Tighten the knot close to the end of the string. Cross the left end over the right end. Go through the loop once. Tighten the knot.

    • 4). Thread a bead with a small center hole, like a pearl, over the needle to the surgeon's knot. If you are right handed, hold the string above the bead between the thumb and middle finger on your left hand. Hold the string with your right hand if you are left handed. The bead should be hanging below your thumb; your palm should be facing you.

    • 5). Make a loop with the working string around the middle and index fingers of the hand that is holding the bead. Hold the loop with your thumb. Pull the silk string forward through the loop.

    • 6). Insert beading tweezers through the loop to hold the string at the top of the bead securely. Make sure to grasp the string as it exits the bead, there should be no space between the bead and the tweezers.

    • 7). Pull the string to tighten the loop into a knot. The knot should rest against the tweezers. Release the tweezers' grip on the string.

    • 8). Push the knot down with the tip of the tweezers so that it is flush against the bead.

    • 9). Repeat Steps 4 through 8 to create the desired length of beaded strand for the jewelry. Tie the end of the silk string onto one section of clasp. Tie one section of clasp onto the 3-inch tail left in Step 3.
