The Outer Critics’ Circle Awards are given out by the Outer Critics’ Circle, the official organization of theater writers who cover the New York stage for a variety of leading out-of-town newspapers and national publications, as well as other media “beyond Broadway.” The organization was created in 1949 to provide a forum in which critics in the ‘outer circle’ (outside New York) could discuss, critique, and honor the theatre on a regular basis (most especially, New York theatre).
