    Window Preparation

    • Clean each pane of the window with a non-ammonia-based cleaner, wiping the glass dry and then air drying for 20 minutes. Inspect each pane to ensure there are no streaks or hair which could interfere with the window film. Once the film is on the glass it is difficult to remove and start again.

    Tint Film

    • Choose a tint film that will best suit the needs of the room or home, such as color and shade. Poor quality tint film could "purple" with age and would have to be replaced sooner. The outside appearance is an often forgotten aspect, and silver or colored tint could have a negative effect from the street. Tint film also has a metallic content, usually related to the darkness or light penetration level; the higher this value is, the less sunlight is able to come through the glass. Ninety percent is almost opaque.

    Application

    • Spray the window pane with distilled water, daubing up any drips with a towel. Cut a section of tint film a little larger than the pane and peel off the backing, which is usually a clear plastic. The glue must be put to the glass very quickly to avoid dust and hairs, and sprayed with water while being oriented. Air trapped between the film and glass must be squeegeed out from the center before the film dries. Spray the film any time if it begins to dry before the job is done. Once the air bubbles are out, cut the film along the edges of the pane, as close to the molding as possible. Check for any really small air bubbles, as they tend to hide. Allow it to cure for 24 hours before cleaning.
