London is a wonderful place to visit and there is a lot to see and do in this vibrant capital. If you are taking time off to explore one of the top holiday destinations in Europe, then you might like to consider renting a bicycle when you are there. London is a very busy town and not all the areas are that easy to cycle around but if you stay in Kensington or Chelsea, then riding a bike around the area can be fun. When you book apartments in London, you should check out if there is anywhere you can park your bikes up safely because bike theft in the capital is pretty high.

Bike Friendly Areas

A couple of years ago, London became a much more bike friendly capital with over 6,000 bikes available to hire in various places around this grand metropolis. However, if you don't mind staying south of the river Thames, there are some great short-term London apartments available that have secure bike stores on the premises.

Battersea and Putney are lovely areas that are around 15 minutes ride from Chelsea and South Kensington. Cycling around these areas of London is great as there is a lot to discover in the way of quaint cafés, stylish boutiques and classy restaurants, as well as some very nice traditional pubs along the embankment.

There are many other really gorgeous areas of London that are well worth cycling around. This includes across the river over Tower Bridge and the new Chelsea Harbour where you'll find the Design Centre, this is well worth a visit.

Many self-catering apartments in London have communal gardens and are well appointed properties which make ideal bases for a holiday in the capital. If you plan your days well, you can bike along the north embankment to the Tate Gallery and then further on to Westminster past the houses of Parliament.

Of course, the parks are splendid in London and Hyde Park, in particular is a lovely place to go spend some time in. The Serpentine Bar and Kitchen, which is located in the park, makes a lovely place to stop for lunch or a quick snack in the afternoon.

Finding Apartments a Little Further South

If you don't mind being a little out of central London, then Greenwich is yet another great place to stay, and of course, there is a lot to see in the area. There's the Greenwich University, and the Maritime Museum which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of London. It's a gorgeous area to explore on a bike and if you've rented a short-term let flat in the area, then this is one place you'll love being as you can take a boat trip along the river to many of the attractions found further along.

Careful Where You Leave Your Bikes

Cycling around the capital is fun, but you do have to be careful where you park up your bikes. You have to make sure they are securely locked whenever you stop to go sightseeing. Most cycle shops will advise you on how to secure any bikes you rent out from them, but you can never be too careful when in the capital.

London is a wonderfully cosmopolitan city and there is no shortage of restaurants and pubs in every part of the town. There is also a great café scene in most areas of London, so parking up a bike for a quick coffee and snack is easy when you're en route to wherever you happen to be going. If you go online to book apartments in London, then check out the areas that offer you the best deals and where you can safely keep your bikes.
