Sciatic is the nerve which runs from the lower back region through the buttocks and slides down the back of the leg.
This nerve is responsible for many movements in the back, thighs and the legs.
When this nerve is inflamed and irritated, it results in sciatica.
This is usually the cause for low back pain, pain in the buttocks and the legs.
In most cases, it occurs when the compression of the herniated disk pressurizes the roots of the sciatic nerve.
This compression causes irritation and inflammation of the sciatic nerve.
Normally the pain originates at the lower back and gradually runs down till the legs, sometimes causing severe pain in the legs.
The most common cause of sciatica is because of herniated disk compression.
The sciatica exercises mainly target the muscles of the lower back, abdomen, buttocks and also the thighs.
They provide effective relief from sciatica.
There are quite a few beneficiary exercises prescribed for sciatica.
The piriformis muscle stretches, the piriformis is a small muscle found deep in the buttock area.
This helps in lifting and rotating the hip joints.
The sciatic nerve runs very close to this muscle and in case this muscle is tightened it puts pressure and causes inflammation of the sciatic nerve.
To relieve from this pain, piriformis muscle stretches are prescribed.
There are other kinds of exercises too, like the low back stretches to target the pain caused in the lower back region, the hamstring stretches and the core strengthening exercises.
There are also a few yoga exercises prescribed for sciatica for effective relief from pain.
By following the right kind of advice and exercising the right way, you can be cured of sciatica and keep your back healthy and fit by practicing them regularly.
Although taking rest for a couple of days might help but it will not speed up the recovery process, exercises are the only way through which you can gain instant relief from the sciatic pain
