Celiac Disease in Kids - Part 1
The symptoms of celiac disease vary so greatly amongst people, including kids, no one can say 'this is a typical case of celiac.
'Robert Dahl, MD, at the CSA Annual Conference in September 2000 said:"Of 100 patients with celiac disease, just over 10 percent present with classical overt symptoms of malabsorption such as weight loss, diarrhea and nutritional deficiencies.
About 10 percent are incorrectly diagnosed for some length of time, in some cases years.
" Though the signs can vary greatly and appear at any age, irritability is one of the most common symptoms in kids.
This irritability can show up in many different ways:aggression, anger, colic-like, crankiness, frustration and the like.
A child could be very calm for days and then seems to turn into a Jekyll-and-Hyde! Other common symptoms in kids can include:
With older children, symptoms like difficulty concentrating in school or poor memory can be indications of the disease too.
Sadly, by the time any of these symptoms have appeared, some damage has already occurred to your child's small intestine.
