Hair removal is defined as a process of removing naturally growing hair especially from the human skin. Historically hair removal practices have been in use from around the fourth or fifth century BC. It was especially common in the Greek culture where hairy men were actually frowned upon. As depicted by Michelangelo's David a hairless Greek man was considered the epitome of beauty. According to modern-day techniques there is a usually two different kinds of hair removal. There are two methods for you to consider. One method is temporary removal and the other being permanent or semi-permanent in nature. These methods are described as:

Depilation - is defined as a process of removal of hair from above the surface of the skin. Among the most common procedures for depilation is the practice of shaving. Other more commonly available solutions are chemical depilation creams that actually break down the proteins that make up the hair disintegrating it from above the skin. This method is fairly temporary and the hair usually grows back at a normal rate.

Epilation - this method usually involves the removal of the entire hair, even from under the skin. This is a fairly long-lasting method but can be semi-permanent in nature. The commonly used methods for epilation are waxing, lasers, threading or electrology. For smaller regions here can also be removed by physical plucking with tweezers.

There can be several different reasons for hair removal among men and women these can include even surgical procedures which require only hairs from the area of incision to remove prior to the surgical process. Also a person may need to remove their hair before getting a tattoo or any other skin treatment. There are also several different social and cultural reasons for removing hair, as with women is a common practice to remove the hair from their upper lips to make their appearance more socially acceptable.

Beautification of facial features is also another purpose for which hair is removed for example women usually pluck their eyebrows in order to give them a better and more beautiful shape. But, for competitive swimmers it is often almost always necessary to remove their body hair in order to minimize drag underwater. Whether the reason is medical, cosmetic or any other it is always mentionable that you must take care before starting any hair removal procedure. As every method has some disadvantages like you can cut yourself during shaving or get severe allergic reactions to the depilation cream. Even sophisticated treatments like laser hair removal can also be dangerous so, it is always advisable that you consult a physician before starting any procedure.
